Never cancel your current insurance until you have found new coverage and been accepted for that coverage. NEVER LIE ON AN APPLICATION Never let your coverage lapse for more than 63 days; if it goes longer than this, you loose some of your options and your protection under HIPPA. You can be declined! Provide as much information as possible regarding your health history; get a letter from your doctor describing your situation if there is any reason you might be declined. Make a copy of any application you fill out. You will find that it takes some time; no need to figure all that information out again if you don't get coverage from that particular carrier. Ask your agent to get pre-screened rates for you. Any quote you get will be based upon the information provided. If you do not provide much information, you will get "base rates." Base rates are a good way to compare, not a good way to plan and budget for the actual cost of your coverage. Affordability should be a key ingredient in determining your level of coverage. GROUP INSURANCE Group Insurance is different than individual health insurance. Sometimes, but not always, the coverage has lower deductibles and copays. No one can be turned down for group coverage. They can be turned down, or declined, for individuals. Your rates are based upon your group's collective age and health status a the time of application Some carriers increase rates each month based upon age; other carriers do one increase each year. Maternity is automatically included in most group plans. Maternity is covered as any other illness.
