Yes, here is yet another acronym to learn -- HIC. The state of Ohio has coined Health Insuring Corporation to cover a broad range of health provider plans including PPOs, HMOs and POSs. To provide health care coverage in the state of Ohio, an organization has to get approval from the State Department of Insurance. If you do not have insurance, you will not be able to tap into the negotiated discounts that these HIC's have in place. Costs for non-insured individuals can be as much as 70% higher than for those who are in an HIC's network. For a complete list of all approved carriers in Ohio, see Ohio Group & Individual Health Insurance Providers (it's at the bottom of the page). This is a powerful link -- it will tune you into all of the Ohio laws regarding your rights to continue your coverage or to buy health insurance coverage if you are not a healthy person. HIC's have networks of hospitals and health care providers that they work with. Before choosing a plan, it is advisable to take a look at their network to make sure that the doctors and hospitals that you want to go to are in the network. Smaller, regional carriers like Central Reserve Life, utilize the networks of some of the larger national organizations such as Medical Mutual or Anthem. We can provide individual quotes for every major and most regional health care providers in the State of Ohio over the phone. We can provide most group quotes within 24 - 48 hours (or less).
